Time to make your list and check it twice! The holidays are upon us once again, and from gift giving to holiday parties, ARTpool Gallery has got you covered.
When it comes to vintage charm and supporting other local artists, boutique owner, Marina Williams, knows best. I caught up with the cool gallery/boutique/event space owner for a peek at the magic that goes on behind the 70’s stained glass windows to see what they have in store for the holiday season.
Originally, Marina envisioned ARTpool as purely an art gallery where she could display her own art and collaborate with other artists. With the help of her mom, Becky, and boyfriend, Evan, the shop has evolved a lot since the early days. Today, the shop features local art, vintage fashion and accessories, handmade jewelry, vinyl records, retro boots, indie designer goods, books, the café and over the top monthly events.
Marina describes ARTpool as a “pooling of inspiration and talent that is constantly evolving, which is important in being a heartbeat of any type of organic indie continuum of interest.”
These days, they are working on curating their second space that Marina humorously refers to as “manland” and creating their new line of leatherwork accessories. The quirky proprietress has developed a loyal customer following with her well-curated shop where there is truly something for everyone.
I know I will definitely be making my way over to ARTpool to find a stylish number for my various holiday celebrations and to do some Christmas shopping. Marina can dress any size or shape of woman in something they feel comfortable in, but also daring enough to turn some heads. In fact, I had happened to be looking for a Gatsbyesque outfit for a party that I attended recently and I found everything at ARTpool. It definitely made a statement and I got tons of compliments.
Get your holiday shopping on at their Crafty Fest Indie Art Market on Dec. 20 and 21. Here you will find a variety of handmade local and vintage gifting options. The lot will be full of nearly 20-25 different vendors from all over the state, selling wearable pieces, edible pieces, bath products, beauty products, candles, pottery, hand knit scarves, vintage clothing & antique dealers and vinyl records. ARTpool is a huge advocate for shopping local. It gives local artists a place to be seen and highlight their work. At the most basic level, when you buy local rather than from corporate, more money stays within the community.
If you are looking for a fun holiday party, break out your tacky holiday sweater and make your way over to ARTpool on Saturday, Dec. 13. ARTpool is hosting their Wicked Winter Wonderland Ugly Sweater Holiday pARTy, showcasing local artists. Expect to see a live fashion runway show, local bands, crazy Rockettes doing kick lines, special song and dance numbers, video art by David Meek, aerial art, and the crowning of the King and Queen of the Ugly Sweater Contest. Guests can also count on a variety of libations and nibbles.
Wishing you happy holidays full of cheer and gingerbread!
