The Sunscreen Film Festival, Cinema Squatch and Indyoh is back at it again, bringing unique cinematic events to Downtown St. Pete. DTSP Summer Cinema 2016 kicks off this month with a series of one-of-a-kind parties and movie showings hosted by different venues throughout the area. Last season, the successful, fun, FREE and family-friendly events were held outdoors at The Museum of Fine Arts, but now Sammy The Sasquatch will be bringing your favorite cult classic movies to awesome places in DTSP with special themed nights. From office parties to surprise guest stars, you never know what exciting happenings will take place at these events.
The fun begins on Thursday, May 19 at the gorgeous and historic venue NOVA 535 with the viewing of Office Space (R). Happy Hour starts at 5:30 pm with DJ Fresh providing great tunes for the party and delicious food courtesy of the Avenue and KINGS Street Food. Shortly after happy hour, you will need to put on your safety glasses as Cinema Squatch recreates the scene of smashing technology just like in the movie at 6:00 pm! The film starts at 7:00 pm inside of Tampa Bay’s #1 event space with a brief short beforehand. Be sure to RSVP for this 21+ FREE event at NOVA 535.
Sunday, June 12 head on down to where it all began at MFA in Downtown St. Pete for “Shakin’ and Bacon on The Lawn,” screening of Footloose (PG). DJ Fresh will be mixing your favorite movie themed jams beginning at 7:00 pm. With a milk “shake” and Kevin “Bacon” inspired menu provided by KINGS Street Food, trivia and lawn games, bring your family (and dogs!) to this great event that everyone can enjoy! Movie starts at dark on the MFA lawn.
Thursday, July 7 swing into Cage Brewing in Downtown St. Pete and enjoy the screening of Major League (R). At “Baseball and Brews” enjoy some good ol’ baseball, craft brews and food provided by one of Hunger and Thirst’s Restaurants. DJ Fresh will be back at it again with themed music starting at 7:00 pm. Take part in trivia and lawn games before the movie begins at dark.
Sunday, July 31 the movies return to MFA in DTSP for “Bark In The Park Dog Party.” Best In Show (PG-13) begins at dark. Before the movie, browse the dog vendor booths and get some yummy treats for your pup to enjoy. This is another Certified Fresh event – arrive early to enjoy some tunes to get your tail shaking. Music begins at 7:00 pm.
Saturday, August 20 it’s time to get radical at the “Totally Awesome 80’s Party” at ARTpool Gallery. Before Pretty In Pink (PG-13) starts at dark, there will be a costume contest, a mega-cool 80’s dance party (thanks to DJ Fresh) and righteous trivia. Marina Williams, owner of ARTpool Gallery, always throws unforgettable parties here in DTSP. Don’t miss this blast from the past totally tubular party starting at 7:00 pm!
This season comes to a close on Sunday, September 11 at MFA with “Bikes On The Lawn.” Peddle over to Cycle Brewing to join the group ride to the party and viewing of PeeWee’s Big Adventure (PG) on the MFA lawn. St. Pete Bike CoOp will be there to greet you and provide complimentary bike valet. Prior to the movie at dark, there will be a bike raffle and great giveaways.
A portion of all of the proceeds at each event will benefit local nonprofit Little Light of Mine, a nonprofit organization offering professional photography services, free of charge, to families with children fighting life-threatening illness or injury.
All food and beverage courtesy of Executive Producer Sponsors theAvenue and KINGS Street Food (Hunger and Thirst Restaurant Group). Desserts provided by Sweet Divas. Each event will have a themed menu based on what movie is showing.
