Finding a restaurant that you can go to at anytime of the day can be hard. Whether you’re on the hunt for lunch, dinner or drinks, The Avenue has a little something for everyone. The Avenue serves up some of downtown St. Pete’s best food and entertainment that everyone can enjoy. It’s a place where you can recover from last night with some juicy burgers or let loose with friends over late night bites and live music.
The Avenue is the brainchild of Florida native Stephen Schrutt, who has been in the restaurant biz since he was 14. Inspired by the people and the “overall vibe” of downtown St. Petersburg, Schrutt set out to create a restaurant that could be a welcoming and comfortable experience for all. “I wanted to create a place that was inviting,” Schrutt said. “I want people to come and stay awhile.”

By crafting a menu that is both creative and delicious, coupled with a down-home feel, Schrutt has turned The Avenue into a downtown St. Pete favorite. All with the help of Chef Ryan Kelly, who is bringing his creative, make everything-from-scratch style to The Avenue. You might have caught Chef Ryan on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives from his time at the Tampa Bay Brewing Company.
Specializing in burgers, The Avenue offers everything from the classics to burgers with toppings a little more adventurous. Some fan-favorites are ‘The Cracka,’ which has a deep fried green tomato, southern slaw, pimento cheese and southern cider sauce atop a thick angus patty. Another popular burger is ‘The Goodnight,’ which comes with applewood bacon, a sunny-side up egg, crown maple syrup, American cheese and an English muffin.
Another fun option is the Burger of the Month, which Schrutt and his team dream up monthly. This month’s burger, ‘The Gunslinger,’ packs smoky chipotle sauce, bacon, queso fresco and crispy tortilla chips. The chefs at The Avenue season and patty all of their burgers in-house, using only fresh ingredients, so whatever your style is you’re guaranteed a high-quality meal.
If you’re craving something different, The Avenue offers plenty of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, mac ‘n’ cheese, hot dogs and kids’ meals. Quench your thirst at two bars with some of The Avenue’s small batch bourbon, specialty cocktails and shots, or try one of 14 beers on tap. And since no meal is complete without dessert, The Avenue has got you covered with fried Oreos or s’mores served in Mason jars.
