Community Bartender for a Community Cause at The Ale and The Witch in Downtown St. Pete
This particular Monday evening the Witch hands over the bar to a local organization working to help move our community to a sustainable environment. In June of 2013 City Council voted unanimously in favor of establishing a Committee with this goal.
Founded in 2014 the St. Petersburg Sustainability Council was formed to work towards this goal with a mix of citizens, educators, activists, civil servants and business people that all share the common goals of achieving a balanced approach to growth and health. The relationship we have with our environment is crucial to our enjoyment and success in St. Pete, Florida and across the globe.
Meeting on a regular basis, keeping each other up to date on issues relatingto water, alternative energy, pollution, technology, policy and many related topics around town and the state while working together to promote sustainability to our neighbors, businesses and elected officials.
One particular project currently working is the Legendary Trees of St Petersburg Calendar telling the story of our spectacular trees and their link to our shared heritage. The result is an engaging showcase for the stories and legends of many of the historic, beautiful and important trees across the City. These calendars will be on hand and for sale to raise awareness and money for this non profit organization. SPSC has provided educational programs about smart growth, transportation, recycling, climate impacts, and urban reforestation, and we will launch a series of neighborhood tree walks for The Year of the Tree in 2017. The City of St. Petersburg is about to enact its Climate Action & Resilience Plan, and SPSC will play a vital role in this effort. We worked with the city to upgrade its Tree & Landscape Ordinance to better protect our canopy, and through ReTree St. Pete, we’ll help undertake a city-wide tree inventory enabling strategic tree plantings and greenspace planning across the city.
From 5-7pm Thomas Paterek will be pouring beers and wines with each glass he pours the Witch will be donating $1. 100% of all tips from 5-7pm will also be donated during this witching hour fundraiser for this local community cause.
The City of St Petersburg has become the 1st Florida City to transition to 100% clean renewable energy and it is because of our citizens and organizations like this who help lead the way.
Come join us for a beverage and conversation and help out on this Monday evening for this local community cause.
