There is a particular gentleman in Downtown St. Pete who believes first impressions in business are key and being well put together adds confidence to a man. This dapper dude is not only fantastic to look at, but you can tell he is grateful for all that is in his life including a stunning wife, a job that keeps him on his toes during the day, Bourbon, bowties (he has even started making his own – how’s that for innovative?!), and the Gators. You may know him by his beard, but I’m talking about Ryan Tarrant, Director of Sales at The Courtyard Marriott in Downtown St. Pete, and more recently, the owner of his newest venture Cinema Squatch.
Ryan grew up in the Sarasota and Bradenton area, but marched right on up to Gainesville to go to college. This is where he met and fell in love with the beautiful Heather (and The Gators) while they were both working downtown. They tied the knot about five years ago, and both shine with adornment for one another. While the two were deciding on where to relocate to establish careers (and well, be grown ups) they chose Downtown St. Pete because it reminds them of Sarasota’s arts and beaches while also having an innovative culture and nightlife like Gainesville.
“My wife and I love this area and could not imagine living anywhere else. I am excited to see what St. Pete is becoming and want to be a part of its awesome culture.” Ryan said as he explained his enjoyment for the area (let’s be real – who doesn’t love Saint Petersburg, Florida?!).
While in Gatorville, Ryan worked in both hotels and nightclubs, which gave him a great deal of experience in hospitality (you can tell just by meeting him, he has a kindness that is undeniable). With his expertise, he currently plays a huge part in the historic Courtyard St. Petersburg Downtown hotel, where he is the Director of Sales. (Not sure where to stay when you visit the area? Choose this place, the team is incredibly friendly, the hotel is newly renovated, but still holds the charm of the original 1925 building!)
Although he wears his hotel glasses during the day, at night and on the weekends, he strips them off and puts on his Cinema Squatch hat.
Cinema Squatch is a Cinematic Event Company that Ryan and Heather Tarrant recently created that brings the big screen to you!
“Whether you’re watching the big game, planning a backyard movie night, or celebrating your favorite TV season finale, Cinema Squatch will elevate your viewing party to an unforgettable cinematic event!” Ryan continued and said that he wanted to offer the ability for anyone to be able to have a “larger than life” screen experience in their home at a fair price.
How did the name come about?
According to Ryan, the name came from the legend of Sammy The Sasquatch and the story goes something like this:
“Sammy the Sasquatch lived in the forest outside of a small village. Sammy would sneak into the village at dusk, set up an old projector he found at a forest sale, and project on to old man Barwicks’ barn. The village folk would all gather and watch the only movie they had, ‘Harry and the Hendersons.’ He would leave nuts, berries, and popcorn for the town folk so they could enjoy their classic film without having to go spend all of their savings at the big corporate movie theater. After the movie would end and everyone went home, he would sneak back in, clean up, and take his movie equipment back to his tree house.” (As you can see – Ryan has an imaginative mind, maybe he can thank his love of Bourbon for that!)
Speaking of Bourbon. Perhaps you could enjoy a glass with Ryan (neat, please) while enjoying a movie during Cinema Squatch’s movie season in partnership with Museum of Fine Arts and Sunscreen Film Festival beginning in December 2015. Stay tuned for an official announcement of movies playing through May 2016.
As Downtown St. Pete grows, so do the minds of entrepreneurs with incredible dreams. It is people like Ryan Tarrant and other personalities of the area who help make it such an incredible place to visit and live.
