Treasures Revolve around Style! In this day in age we can recycle, reuse or repurpose just about anything (well, except time). It’s the grand idea of going green. Purchasing or upcycling used goods only does the environment a favor by keeping more items out of the landfill. Because, let’s face it, most man-made goods are simply tossed out. Plus, recycling feels good. Ask yourself this: What are you recycling? Hopefully at least your wine bottles and junk mail. What about your clothing?! Consider shopping (and selling) second-hand. In Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, aka DTSP, there is a pretty hip clothing shop that is well worth the visit. Revolve Clothing Exchange is located at 2000 4th Street North. 727-399-7788

Inspired by the ever so awesome Buffalo Exchange (I sure do miss the one in my hometown, Las Vegas), Jessica Gronewold and Kevin Hecht made the marvelous decision of opening up a buy-sell-trade store in Florida. Revolve began in Ybor in 2006 and expanded by adding a location here in St. Pete four years later.
Not exactly sure what Revolve Clothing Exchange is? It is far and away from the corporate idea of meticulously displaying what to buy and what not to buy, or what is trendy (you won’t see any freaky mannequin displays here). The variety of clothing is exciting and not stuck in any one style. You will see everything from fabulous vintage, trendy, boho, rocker, preppy, romantic, casual and everything in between (for guys and gals!).
How it works: Well, it is definitely more than a thrift store or consignment shop. Shoppers can buy, sell or trade clothing. The shop takes used clothing (clean and in good condition of course) and will reward clients with store credit or cash for it, depending on the season and needs. The best part of Revolve is that they are more interested in what the actual garment is rather than just the brand label (seriously, you’ll see to-die-for dresses from Target and then a gorgeous bebe purse hanging on the same wall. Life is about balance – I can vouch for that!).
I had the pleasure of chatting with one of the owners, Kevin Hecht, about Revolve, which actually has four locations – three in Florida and one in New Orleans. However, he said that the Downtown St. Pete location is the “best” store overall in terms of fast merchandise turnover and consistent customers (well, obviously, because DTSP adores and supports unique businesses like Revolve!).
“[St. Pete] is a good place for us to be,” Hecht said. And of course, DTSP loves Revolve Clothing Exchange. Hecht added that he couldn’t do this without his awesome staff. “They have really taken the business and understood what the customer wants and created where we are today.” He also added that he is not afraid to hire people who are “smarter” than him in certain areas. Hecht trusts the intelligence of his employees and is happy that they have a passion for fashion, coordinating and pricing items.
Keep it in the community, clean out your closet and head over to Revolve Clothing Exchange. Or just treat yourself and go on a little shopping spree without breaking the bank!
